While it’s been generally known in the Apple community that game streaming services aren’t permitted under the App Store Guidelines, this didn’t stop Microsoft from testing the waters earlier this year with a TestFlight beta of a very limited version of its Project xCloud app.

Nowhere has this been more apparent than with Microsoft’s Project xCloud, now officially known as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. They’ve been for all intents and purposes prohibited on the App Store for years, and while some developers have made attempts to get game subscription services onto the iPhone and iPad, they’ve repeatedly encountered the brick wall of Apple’s App Store policies. Now, coming to the availability of the xCloud service in the Xbox App, it is currently available as a beta for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members who are a part of the Xbox Insider program.We already know that Apple’s relationship with cloud gaming services is a bit weird, to say the least. This way, players will have the flexibility to try out games on their PCs before finally getting them for their Xbox consoles.įurthermore, to help players get started, Microsoft has also added some additional features, including “easy-to-access information on a controller and network status, social features to stay connected with friends, and the ability to invite people – even those also playing on the cloud without the game installed – to join you in a game.” Moreover, they will be able to start playing a game on their PCs which they started on their Xbox console or start a brand new game from the Xbox Game Pass library to decide whether or not they should download it on their Xbox device. So, with xCloud Gaming in the Xbox App, players will be able to start playing a game on their PCs from the “cloud games” section. In the post, Jason Beaumont, partner director of Xbox Experiences, wrote that the Xbox Cloud Gaming service will allow users to turn their budget and low-spec PCs into a gaming device by simply connecting a compatible Xbox controller via Bluetooth or USB. The Redmond giant announced the addition of xCloud to the Xbox App via an official blog post.
